Daily Wellness Challenge #30

Happy Monday! This is my last daily wellness challenge post! It's been great to share my ideas, thoughts and feelings with you!! I have one final post that is more to give you something to think about and hopefully triggers you to think in a bit of a different way.

A couple of weeks ago, I went to a celebration of life for a colleague for whom I was on a committee with during the last 3 years. He was in his early 70's and lived his life to the fullest. I listened to many stories from his friends and family about how he impacted and enhanced their lives and how they would miss him deeply.

One woman stood up to read a poem that greatly represented him. It really struck my heart and stuck with me throughout that day.

~ The Dash by Linda Ellis ~

I read of a man who stood to speak At the funeral of a friend He referred to the dates on the tombstone From the beginning...to the end He noted that first came the date of birth And spoke the following date with tears, But he said what mattered most of all Was the dash between those years For that dash represents all the time That they spent alive on earth. And now only those who loved them Know what that little line is worth For it matters not, how much we own, The cars...the house...the cash. What matters is how we live and love And how we spend our dash. So, think about this long and hard. Are there things you'd like to change? For you never know how much time is left That can still be rearranged. If we could just slow down enough To consider what's true and real And always try to understand The way other people feel. And be less quick to anger And show appreciation more And love the people in our lives Like we've never loved before. If we treat each other with respect And more often wear a smile, Remembering this special dash Might only last a little while So, when your eulogy is being read With your life's actions to rehash... Would you be proud of the things they say About how you spent YOUR dash?

Amazing isn't it??? I don't know that I could have ever written this in a better way. So many people go through their daily lifeLet's not waste life on the meaningless, petty and insignificant things. Let's embrace each other for who we are instead of judging and bullying. Let's lift each other up regardless of what we are going through in our own lives. Let go of jealousy, let go of negativity, let go of hate. Accept others for who they are and where they are in their lives. That is just where they need to be. They're learning lessons, just as we are. You don't have to agree with or like the person or what they choose to do with their lives, but everyone has the the choice to live however they'd like to live.

Please don't waste your dash. This life is so precious and short. It can end in an instant. How would you like your last moments on the planet to be? How would you like to be remembered and known for?
