Daily Wellness Challenge #22

Behold! The power of music and the therapeutic effects of singing!

I am a closet singer. I don't sing in front of many people. A few close friends who I know won't totally judge me. Secretly though....I sing all of the time! I sing when I'm in the shower, I sing when I'm washing the dishes, I sing and dance around the house when I'm vacuuming, I sing when I am driving. One of my favourite things is when my Daughter and I hear a song that we both love and belt out the lyrics at the top of our lungs!

Music has a different effect on everyone, but there is a genre out there for everyone. Music has been proven to stimulate the brain. It can elevate your mood, calm your mind, aid in relaxation and promote mental health.

Other findings include:

+ Improved cognitive function

+ Reduction in stress

+ Improved memory

+ Can help to manage pain

+ Improved sleep

+ Improved motivation

+ Mood improvement

+ Reduction in the symptoms of depression and anxiety

+ Can improve endurance and performance

As the saying goes; 'Sing as if no one is listening'. Incorporating music and song into your life may provide you with some mental health benefits and improvements. Sing at the top of your lungs! Dance around the house to release some stress, celebrate something joyous or to energize yourself!
