Before you get out of bed in the morning, take some deep inhales and release some long exhales. Deep breathing calms the mind, energizes our body, slows the heart rate, helps to lower our blood pressure and to balance the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems. It’s your body’s built-in stress reliever and it’s something that everyone can do! Remain in your bed, reclined on your back or slightly propped up with pillows. Closing your eyes down and allowing your body to relax and let go of tension and stiffness. With an inhale; for a count of 4, inhale the air into your abdomen, rib area and then your chest...all the way up to your collarbones. Fill your whole lung cavity. With an exhale; for a count of 4, exhale the air first from your chest area, rib area and then your abdomen...making sure to expel all of the air out of your lungs. Repeat this as many as you would like before making your way up to a seated position on the edge of your bed and allowing your breathing to return to your natural inhales and exhales. xo
